Chickenpox is a highly contagious and air-borne disease that is caused by the varicella virus. This disease usually affects children between the age group of 10-15 years, but in rare cases, adults may catch this disease. If it is found in an adult, this disease can be really harmful. Although this disease is not life-threatening it can cause various skin consequences. The symptoms of chickenpox include fever, tiredness, and headaches.

The first stage is a transmission. Chicken Pox starts in the same way as cold or flu, People often mistakes it for cold and flu. A person can be affected by directly touching the blisters or from breathing in particles of varicella virus from the air around someone who is infected or from the blisters. The incubation period of varicella virus is between 10 to 21 days and rashes will appear after that.  Then rashes start appearing, these rashes can cause 250 to 500 small blisters. In the last stage of chicken pox, blisters burst; fluid comes out and dries away. The blister dries and rough skin which scalps away and infectious stage of chicken is over. Although the skin may take several more days to recover it is no longer infectious.

The period of infection depends on the intensity of infection and blisters. Generally, infection lasts for 10 to12 days. The infection may exceed 10 days in case if it is severe. There is a belief that only children get affected to chicken pox, but in very rare cases adults also get affected and it is more severe in adults. When an adult develops this disease there is a greater risk of getting complications. Same as children, chicken pox in adults also starts with a headache, fever and rashes.
